Korean Pop Group Girls’ Generation Profile

Girls’ Generation is South Korea’s most popular female pop group, with hit songs like The Boys, Oh, Tell Me Your Wish, and Gee etc. The group is often referred to as Soshi, or SNSD – abbreviations of their Korean name So Nyeo Shi Dae (소녀시대).

The nine members of SNSD are Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun. You can check their personal profiles further below.

SNSD made their official debut in August 2007 with single Into the New World. They released their first studio album (self-titled) in November, with its second track Kissing You a hit. The album was repackaged as Baby Baby in March 2008. The girls also worked in various (solo) projects, e.g. in reality shows, TV dramas and radio shows etc.

SNSD released their first mini-album, Gee, in January 2009, which became a mega hit, breaking various #1 records on music charts. They released their second mini-album,Tell Me Your Wish in June, which was hugely successful as well.

SNSD continued to excel in 2010 with their second studio album Oh in January, followed by repackaged album RunDevilRun in March, and their third mini-album Hoot in October. The group also made their official Japanese debut in September, with single Geniereaching the #4 spot on Oricon weekly sales chart.

SNSD released their first original Japanese single, Mr Taxi, in April 2011; followed by their first Japanese studio album (self-titled) in June which reached topped the Oricon weekly chart. The girls made their Korean comeback in October with their third studio album, The Boys, which became the year’s best seller.

The group’s first official subunit, Girls’ Generation-TTS, was formed in May 2012 and released a mini-album, Twinkle. SNSD released a few other Japanese singles, i.e.Paparazzi in June, a remake of Oh in September, and Flower Power in November before releasing their second Japanese studio album, Girls & Peace, later that month.

Girls’ Generation released their fourth Korean studio album, I Got A Boy, in January 2013. They released a few Japanese singles, i.e. Love & Girls in May, Galaxy Supernova in September, and My Oh My in November, before releasing their third Japanese studio album, Love & Peace, in December.

Girls’ Generation released their fourth Korean mini album, Mr.Mr., in March 2014.
